Quick read emergency guides

I was surprised to find that there does not appear to be a widely accessible, well-developed, and practical EMT “Quick Reference” guide for the field management of patients with an LVAD. The materials I encountered were often incomplete, unclear, or not sufficiently structured for real-time pre-hospital use.

Drawing from primary sources along with supplementary references, I am collecting current best practices and distilling them into a concise field-oriented Quick Reference Guide.  (document still in development!)

I acknowledge that my medical purview is limited, and I defer to the expertise of clinicians and LVAD specialists to refine and validate the clinical content of this document.

It is my hope that this guide may serve as a useful resource for EMTs who may be unfamiliar with or have limited training in the management of LVAD patients.

Ideally, a more comprehensive, formalized educational program should be developed for EMTs, emergency physicians, and other healthcare professionals. The development of such a program, however, is beyond my current scope.
